A well maintained campground at the based of Rock Creek Canyon near Highway 395. Near Tom's Place, half way between Bishop and the turn-off for Mammoth Lakes. This is an excellent dry camping site for tents and RV under 30 feet. Access for longer RV is marginal due to narrow campground loop roads lined with boulders. There are a few possible sites for a motor home and a tow vehicle. All of the sites we checked were not level. Boulders, rocks, shrubs, pinyon trees and pot holes are present to inflict damage upon an RV and especially the larger size ones. Backing skills are challenged by the campground layout. There is a dump station across from the campground entrance. There are designated water hook-ups for an RV along the campground loops. Sites are shaded by Pinyon Pines or the taller Jeffrey Pines. We stayed in Site 41, which offered the most room for our motor home. When we left, a South Dakota couple with a 40 foot RV quickly relocated to #41. We camped here for five nights in a 36 foot motor home. We will not return with a motor home, but will with a tent and an SUV. The campground rates a 10 from me for tenting or small RV.
A BLM primitive campground a couple of miles west of Highway 395 and 13 miles south of Big Pine. Fill-up with water before coming here because there is no drinking water at the campground. There are no restrooms. Ideal dry camping boondocking with scenic views of the Sierras and White Mountains. The campground has many nearly leveled sites to accommodate the longer RV. Some sites have shade provided by a cottonwood tree and most have a table and barbeque grill. The campground road is paved and the camp sites are packed sand. While we were there the campground was nearly empty except for a long term RV camper and a campground care taker. It is best to camp away from the care taker who is some what odd and plays country western music very loud. For five dollars a night it’s a great deal with a pleasant cold water creek and panoramic views. We will likely return again.
An impressive campground for motor homes and a great base camp for the Benson and Sierra Vista area. We were here during the off-season with just five other campers including a very friendly and helpful campground host. The thundertorms were great and the cavern tour is most worthwhile. The pull through sites have the 50 amp service, plenty of space, and we were able to easily level our motor home. The tall mesquite trees provided plenty of shade and we had great views of the Whetstone Mountains. There is a public dump station between the entrance station and the campground. We camped here for three nights in a motor home and we will return again.
An excellent recreational vehicle base camp during the off season with a great rate. The State Park has a warning to campers about being trapped in the campground due to flash flooding, which may disrupt the entrance road. We did not experience any thunderstorms during our visit. The back-in sites offer more privacy and shade from mesquite trees. Various birds can be easily viewed from the campsites. Sites are leveled with 50 amp service. There is plenty of space between sites with a nearby excellent restroom provided with hot showers. We will likely stay here again.
This place is far to big and its filled with single wide mobile homes. I was greatly disappointed with the site and I was expecting much more. The sites are nothing more than pea gravel with a tiny concrete patio slab and poorly maintained hook-ups. The sites are jammed packed together and mixed with residence. The back of our motor home was two feet from a mobile home. I felt like I was staying overnight on a city lot. Somewhere on the grounds and or the adjacent farm field someone was burning trash and making lots of dust. I've got five different sewer connection fittings and none would work in dump station, which is below ground level. The loops are to long and very narrow. I had to drive over golf course greens to make the turns to avoid smacking the mobile homes. The entrance road is very rough and will give any good motor home a terrific shaking. Well, they do have a very big pool, which was cool on a hot summer day. They do provide access to the Colorado River and they have great facilities. I will not even think about returning here.
This is an outstanding remote RV park, which for us served as a great base camp for birding the east side of the Chiricahua Mountains. Not your typical RV park by offering such a large site. We camped in a level site by the duck pond, which provided us with a number of birds to view. The Wi-Fi was excellent and fast. The staff is friendly, helpful and they take great care of the place. The roads are dirt, which adds to the rustic great away from it feeling. This place grew on us each day and we liked it more each day. The only reason I did not give it a ten is the owner has plans for more improvements. So on our next visit perhaps it will get the golden score of ten. We we will be back again.
This was are 3rd stay in a private campground and first in a motor home. We chose this place to test out are new motor home. We were highly impressed by the campground and the facilities. The social dinner on Thursday night was enjoyable and it introduced us to a friendly RV group. An excellent place for a few nights of luxury RV camping. The price is high for any sort of long term stay for us. We found everything here as advertised if not better. A great and friendly staff bent on providing the best possible customer service. We really like the views and hiking around the many trails and local roads. We will stay here again.
